Society of Women Engineers

Northern Illinois University

The Northern Illinois University Chapter of the Society of Women Engineers is a student-run organization dedicated to promoting and encouraging women of all ages in engineering fields. Our mission is to support women in reaching their full potential as engineers and leaders. By demonstrating the value of diversity, we aim to expand the image of engineering as a positive and inclusive profession. Interested in joining? Email us at niu.swe@gmail.com!

Outreach

We’re a student organization committed to community impact through STEM outreach. We lead an all-girls STEM club at a local middle school, volunteer as science fair judges, host STEM events, visit high schools to promote the Society of Women Engineers, and offer mentorship throughout the year.

Events

Our general meetings feature professional development workshops on topics like résumé building, LinkedIn tips, and job fair prep. We also host technical events to sharpen engineering skills in areas like SolidWorks and MATLAB, plus social events to relax, connect, and support women in STEM at NIU.
