Science Olympiad with Georgia

The science olympiad event at Sycamore Middle school was great! I had a great time teaching the kids as well as the parents a little more about engineering by making a popsicle flash light. I found the older kids enjoyed learning more about how the parallel circuit worked to make the LED light turn on and the younger ones just loved to make it and see it work.

The theme of the event this year was Back to the Future which I thought was super fun! The whole school was decorated for it and it ended up looking fantastic! There was even a booth where they made a mini replica of the town in that movie that looked like the replica Doc had in the movie which I thought was impressive.

The booth directly across from us was linemen and line technicians who climb up tall power line poles as well as repair windmills by getting up to the top and fixing it. The gear they brought was super cool and it was interesting to hear more about their work and to see some amazing photos taken when they were fixing a pole.

There was also another booth that had organs for the kids to look at which was super cool and the kids loved that one alot! I heard the most about that one and the NIU Physics station which had the Van de Graaff generator. Overall it was a super fun event that I hope to attend next year!
