Georgia's Summer

Hey everyone! Hope you all had a great summer! I am Georgia Krillies and I currently serve as the Philanthropic chair. This summer I worked part time at Lowes, in the outdoor garden center and I took an online Calculus 2 summer class. Here’s a little more to what I did at my job and what we do in the garden center.

At my job I worked during the weekends from 5 am - 2 pm on Saturday and 6 am - 3 pm on Sunday as well as Tuesday from 11 am - 3 pm. On the weekends we come in one hour before opening to water the outside and inside of the garden center. In the beginning of the season we had a corral which stood in the parking lot and had our tropical plants as well as our trees and shrubs. In front of the store we had more of our hanging pots and potted annual plants as well as our herbs and veggies, and finally inside the garden center we had our annual and perennial plants along with more shrubs and our clearance plants section.

After the team finished watering in the morning we at the beginning of the season had flower shipments that came in, we would spend the rest of our time fixing the tables making sure they were organized and trying our best to keep them filled with our new flowers. We would make room by moving the flowers that looked worse than the new ones to clearance and filling their spot with new ones. The rest of the day was spent again fixing the tables and assisting customers with their needs and doing the best we can to help.

Towards the end of the day on the days where it was especially hot we watered the plants that were outside of the covering and directly in the sun and the wind so they wouldn’t dry out overnight. During the end of the day watering I would see a lot of cute bumble bees on the hydrangeas and the hibiscus that we had to water around, I was even able to get some pictures of some of them.

During the rest of the week I focused on my class which I had Monday through Thursday as well as hanging out with my family and trying to get outside as much as possible. I had such a great summer and can’t wait to get back to school! -Georgia Krillies, Philanthropic Chair
