If you don't- who will?

Writer's picture: NIU SWENIU SWE

"Someone else will handle it."

"Someone has probably thought of that."

"My actions won't make a difference."

These thoughts are impeding on the potential of young women. Life is hard, yes, but it is also what we make of it.

So, what can you make of it?

What do you want?

What is important?

What makes you happy?

I have had months where I was spreading myself too thin and months where I felt I wasn't doing enough. I was tired of the constant battle of measuring productivity, so I focused on what made me happy and what benefitted me the most.

Bringing SWE to the state that is at right now- gives me life. Visiting the girls at middle schools and around- gives me hope for the future. Working as a Research and Development Intern- gives me monetary value and engineering experience. Volunteering at the Airport- gives me experience with the field I wish to spend my life in.

The struggle is most definitely real. But the outcome is EXTRODINARY. I have job opportunities for an industry I wish to go into, I have built a network within my clubs and organizations, and I live everyday happy with what I have done.

I am writing this to encourage all of you to explore, try new things, build the unexpected, volunteer, participate, organize, and lead.

The energy you put in, is the energy you get out. If nothing is done, nothing will continue.
